Police Report

By Annette Christie

Hartford Police Officer Prince received a tip that Jayme Sue Burgess, a 21 year-old from Lawrence had a felony fugitive warrant out of Berrien County. Prince identified that she was currently staying at a residence on S. Center St.  Officer Prince then confirmed that there was a felony warrant for uttering and publishing out of the 5th District Court in St. Joseph.  Prince went to the suspected address.  He located and arrested Burgess without incidence.  On September 6, 2016 at approximately 7:25 p.m., Office Prince was advised by two citizens that they had witnessed an unknown male and female enter into an unoccupied building located at 5 S. Haver Street.  Prince was assisted by Officer Loza of the Tribal Police.  They went to the area and as Officer Prince was entering the front of the building, the two suspects fled out of the back.  Officer Loza was able to detain them on their way out the door.  Chief Beltran has been informed by citizens that they are still receiving calls claiming to be from the IRS threatening them with arrest if they did not send money or provide personal information.
