Police and Fire Reports By Annette Christie Paw Paw Avenue fire On Monday, Sept. 23 at approximately 7:39 a.m., emergency responders were called to the 7600 block of Paw Paw Avenue in Watervliet Township. Responders from police and fire agencies were on scene until approximately 10:29 a.m. Responders found a garage fire that was fully engulfed. The residence attached to the garage was a single story wood structure. The fire agencies included the Watervliet Fire Department and the Hartford Fire Department. The police agencies on scene were the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, including the Watervliet Charter Township Deputy, and the Coloma Township Police Department. North Berrien Fire Rescue statistics For the month of September, as of the 23rd, there have been 12 responses: There was one building fire and one alarm response in the City of Coloma; the department responded to Coloma Township for a total of three situations being medical assist, motor vehicle accident with injuries, and an alarm; in Hagar Township, the department was dispatched to six calls being an equipment fire, extrication of a victim from machinery, a motor vehicle accident with no injuries, an alarm that malfunctioned, a sprinkler malfunction, and a call that was dispatched but then cancelled. The department also assisted the Watervliet Fire Department for a building fire.
