GERALD FREIER Sr. Gerald Freier Sr., 86, of Benton Harbor, MI passed away Monday, October 28, 2019 at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Jeff Bolwerk officiating. Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Caring Circle or St. Matthews Lutheran Church. Those wishing to share a memory of Gerald online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Gerald was born September 11, 1933 in Benton Harbor, MI to Albert & Hertha (Klug) Freier. He graduated from Coloma High School in 1951 and then attended Valparaiso University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1955. On September 4, 1954 he married Carlene Bock in Benton Harbor, MI. Gerald worked for VM Corporation as a chief engineer for 25 years and retired from New Products after 20 years of service. Gerald enjoyed camping, hunting and keeping track of the stock market. In his spare time he also enjoyed being a gunsmith. Gerald is survived by his wife Carlene Freier; sons Gerald Freier Jr. and Thomas (Susan Bublick) Freier; and four grandchildren Cory Craig, Jennifer Craig, Krystal Freier and Jonathon Freier. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Holly Craig, and sisters Carolyn Hurd and Janice Whitcomb.

MARY P. KNIEBES Mary’s life began February 15, 1936, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Most of her adult life was spent in Southwest Michigan. She worked as an office manager for Riverwood for many years. Mary loved to shop, especially browse the deals at flea markets and antique stores. She also enjoyed collecting dolls and was very active in her church.

Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family which includes: her husband of 27 years Regis Kniebes of Coloma; four children Debra (Carl) Scholl, Susan (James) Lynch, Steven (Tina) Botos all of South Bend and Kathleen (Eric) Carleton of Carmel, IN; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister Margie and a brother Charles; and many nieces and nephews. Mary died Sunday, October 27, at home. A granddaughter Stacia, her parents Leon and Florence Sobieralski and four siblings Earl, Carl, Leo, and Alice precede Mary in death. Funeral services will be celebrated Friday, November 1, at 12:00 noon with visitation prior starting at 11:00 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in St. Joseph. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores. EUNICE M. SPILGER-OTT Eunice M. Spilger-Ott, formerly of Bridgman, completed her life’s journey on August 29, 2019. She is survived by a son, Robbin Spilger; daughters Janet Whinham, Sandy Ott-Dugo and Glenna Richardson; sister Ann Wilkinson-Hunnell; and grandchildren Julie Whinham, Tae Whinham, Brian Richardson, Michael Richardson, and David Richardson. A Life Celebration Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, Coloma. Light luncheon to follow. ROY G. KRIEGER Roy G. Krieger, 78, of Coloma, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 at Hallmark Living in Benton Harbor. A funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 26 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Burial with Military Rites followed at North Shore Memory Gardens. Roy was born Nov. 24, 1940 in Benton Harbor. He was the son of Theodore and Donna Krieger. Roy served in the United States Army from 1962-1965. A year after his discharge he and Sandra Larkin were married on March 15, 1966. They had celebrated 52 years of marriage together prior to Sandra’s death in 2018. Roy had worked at Crown Cork & Seal Company in Stevensville for over 33 years prior to his retirement. He is survived by his five children, Carlyn (Guy) Guyor of Benton Harbor, Christian (Valerie) Krieger of Coloma, Jacob (Sheila) Krieger of Coloma, Katrina Krieger of Watervliet and Caine (Kristen) Krieger of Dallas, Texas; his brother Jack (Regenna) Krieger of Benton Harbor; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

BEVERLY LOUISE COLE Beverly Louise Cole, 84, of St. Joseph, MI passed away at the Hanson Hospice Center on Thursday, October 24, 2019. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Beverly was born on August 18, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late Joseph and Harriet (Frank) Frietas. She was a 1953 graduate of Watervliet High School. Beverly was a jack of all trades having worked at various places including the Watervliet paper mill, Sherwin Williams, Gard Real Estate, a HUD inspector, a painter and a newspaper carrier. She will be missed by family and friends. Beverly is survived by her children – Patricia (Daniel) McCrery, Robert (Jennifer) Atherton, Corey (Michael) Hoffman and Dan (Janice) Cole; grandchildren – Dan (Lori) McCrery, Mike (Tagin) McCrey, Jake Hoffman, Abigayle Hoffman, Olivia Atherton, Nathan Atherton and Lucas Atherton; great-grandchildren – Madison, Andrew, Danielle, Connar, and Landon; a great-great-grandson is due in March; and a brother – Dennis (Cindy) Frietas. She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband Robert Atherton, second husband Melton Ray Cole, and brothers – Daniel, Ray and Fritz. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Thursday, Oct. 31, 12 noon, at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home. A time to visit with the family is preceding the service from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan.
