Barbara Kay Fisher, 72, of Watervliet, passed away surrounded by family in her home on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.
Barbara was born on March 23, 1949 in Lawrence to the late Melvin and Ruth (Paul) Danneffel. She was a 1967 graduate of Hartford High School.
Barbara started working on her family farm at a very young age. She then got into the banking business while still in high school; starting as a teller, and worked her way up to Branch Manager. Barb was affectionately known as “Barb at the Bank”, for a career that spanned 50 years before retiring from Chemical Bank in 2015. She continued working as the Keeler Township Treasurer, until November of 2020.
Barb also was the owner of Big Foot Market in Sister Lakes, known for her homemade doughnuts and pies. She was instrumental in the Sister Lakes Business Association, numerous committees, and worked on countless community events to promote the Sister Lakes area throughout the years. She was known by many to be a bit of a prankster, especially for those who visited her at the Sister Lakes bank where she worked, where it seemed they were always up to something, or as she would say “having a little fun”.
When she wasn’t working, Barb was an avid crocheter, Boyd’s Bear collector, reader, and an incredible home cook and baker. Her greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family. She especially enjoyed her time with her three grandkids that she made sure to spoil rotten on a regular basis. Barb will not only be missed by her friends and family, but by the entire community.
Barbara is survived by her two sons – Rob (Jamie) Fisher of Otsego, MI and Derrick (Monica) Fisher of Watervliet; grandchildren – Noah, Megan and Kyler; and a brother – Roger (Holly) Danneffel of Watervliet, as well as several nieces and nephews, and her four legged faithful companion, Leo. She is preceded in death by a sister – Marge Erickson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 3:00 p.m., at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, St. Joseph with Pastor Austin Hopper officiating. Visitation with the family precedes the service from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
