Bessie Mae Sinclair was born Aug. 10, 1927 in Hornbeak, Tennessee the daughter of Grant and Odie (Prince) Rainey. Bessie passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residency in Kalamazoo.
On June 7, 1947 Bessie Rainey and Arthur Sinclair Sr. were united in marriage. She was formerly employed at Rudy’s Manufacturing of Dowagiac. She loved to cook, especially for all of the family gatherings. As for her hobbies, she liked to work in her garden and can what she grew, and crochet.
Arthur precedes Bessie in passing along with her parents; two sisters, Louise and Willie Maude; and one brother, Julius.
Bessie leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving family of four children; Patricia (Floyd) Johnson of Lawrence, Bob (Kathy) Sinclair of Hartford, Shirley (Mike) Griffin of Warren and Arthur Sinclair of Niles; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
The family will welcome friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday June 24, 2022 at the Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford where the service to honor Bessie’s memory will follow. Pastor Lonnie Truelove will officiate. Bessie will be laid to rest next to Arthur in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bessie’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
