Blanchie E. Whitaker, of Coloma, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Sodus Township.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Coloma. Burial will follow in the Coloma Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Davidson Chapel. Memorials may be made to Caring Circle of Lakeland. Please share memories or messages at www.florin.net.
Blanchie was born on July 26, 1922 in Arlberg, AR to Earl and Dollie Gilbert. She was married to John Whitaker for 22 years. After that, she met her life companion of 30 years, Lee Griffeth, until his death in 1996. Prior to her retirement in 1990 from Ruth’s Laundry, where she was employed for five years, Blanchie also was employed at several of the area’s factories. She loved and enjoyed her extended family and was “Mom” to everyone.
Her family includes her children, William (Delcie) Whitaker of South Haven, Freda Smith of Covert, Wanda Whitaker of Coloma, Lois (Loren) Harris of Harrison, AR, Donna (Ken) Conner of Benton Harbor, Eula (Gary) Tarantino of Charlotte, MI, Jack Whitaker of Coloma, and Ramona Griffith of Benton Harbor, her daughter-in-law Barb Whitaker of Coloma, and those who called her “Mom”, Leonard (Marsha) Griffeth of Benton Harbor, Johnny Blackston of Covert, Fred Seabury of Coloma, and Jeff Griffith of Benton Harbor. Blanchie’s family also included many grandchildren, up to six generations.
She was preceded in death by a son Robert Whitaker of Coloma in 2021 and her siblings Nellie Moody, Johnny Gilbert, and Covey Gilbert of Arkansas.
