Charles “Charlie” Shoemaker, 80, of Watervliet died Friday, Aug. 12, 2022 at his residence.

There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Coloma. A graveside service celebrating his life will be held at noon on Friday, Aug. 19, at the Moore Township Cemetery in Sanilac County in the Thumb area of Michigan where his parents are buried. Charlie was born on Dec. 11, 1941 in Pontiac, MI to Charles Sr. and Marion Shoemaker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Charlie married his wife, Linda, in 1978 and she preceded him in death in 2007.

He was a member for over 50 years of Local #190 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and retired in 2003. Cook and Palisades nuclear plants are among the many places he has worked. Before his stroke in 2003 he enjoyed coffee regularly with the guys at the coffee shop. Afterwards he remained at home cared for by his family.

His hobby was classic cars which he enjoyed working on, cruising, and going to shows. Charlie was a hard working individual and he would go out of his way to help family and friends. He enjoyed caring for his family and he loved his family.

His family includes his children, Deborah (John) Hurley of Carsonville, MI, Amy (Todd) Winter of Saukville, WI, and Belinda (Jimmy) Green of Watervliet; his brother, Richard (Connie) Shoemaker of Snover, MI; his sister, Barbara (Art) Stimson of Brown City, MI; and his three grandchildren, Levi Hurley, Seth Hurley, and Mason Green.
