David’s life began July 8, 1959, in Watervliet. He was a lifetime area resident and graduate of Watervliet High School.

After high school David went to work for the Watervliet Paper Mill. In his younger years he enjoyed playing golf and bowling. David enjoyed following MSU football and he was a fan of all the Detroit sports teams. You could find him enjoying putting together puzzles and model cars and he was an avid collector. David had a great love for music and loved to fill his house with all different types.

David died unexpectedly Sunday, June 18, 2023.

His parents Frederick and Elsie (Montai) Backus precede David in death.

David leaves behind a brother Robert (Jennifer) Backus, a sister Sandra (Richard) Baum, two nephews David Backus and Steven Deyne, and two nieces Robyn Backus and Lisa Deyne.
