“DNA Doesn’t Lie” Van Buren Regional Genealogical Society program at Hartford Public Library

October is Family History Month and the public is invited, free of charge, on Saturday, Oct. 21 to the Hartford Public Library, 12 Church St., for a great program presented by Valerie van Heest. “DNA Doesn’t Lie: The pros, cons, and surprises of using it in genealogical research” will begin at 11 a.m. Author and museum exhibit designer Valerie van Heest shares her own surprising genealogical discoveries while offering some tips and cautions when using DNA and Ancestry resources in your own research.

Van Heest is well known for her extensive work in finding and identifying old ship wrecks in Lake Michigan and for her many years searching for Northwest Airlines Flight 2501 that went missing over the southern end of the lake in 1950. Her passion for these historical events combined with her study of genealogy and DNA will be of interest to many.

This event is sponsored by the Van Buren Regional Genealogical Society and no reservation is needed. The Genealogy Room at the library will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on that day and will have genealogists welcoming guests to answer questions and give tours of the Genealogy/History Collection.
