DONNA RICKERS

Donna Rickers, age 88, passed away peacefully June 4, 2024. She was born May 23, 1936 in Buchanan, Michigan to Earl and Harriet Littrell. After the passing of her mother Donna and her two siblings were adopted to different parents. Donna was adopted by William and Helena DeMorrow.

Donna loved to sew, in the early years of her children’s lives she made many of their clothes as well for others. She also loved cooking. She always made enough to feed an army. In her retirement she spent all of her time with her family and grandchildren. She loved them dearly. She also loved doing her crafts. She tried to teach her children and grandchildren to be honest, do right by others, be kind to others and give a helping hand to others when you can.

Her life was a living example of a Bible verse; Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

She was a member of the New Apostolic Church. She sang in the choir and often sang solos. She had the most beautiful voice, like an angel. She also did many fellowships with her very dear friend Dorothy Powers. They had the best of times doing them. They will be remembered for all of them.

Donna worked for the Department of Social Services for 23 years. Donna helped so many lives during those years. She also had several other jobs during her life.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael Rickers of Hartford and Ronald (Marena) Rickers of Hasting, MI; her two daughters, Pam LaVanway of Benton Harbor and Charlotte (Tim) Hunt of Franklin, IN; brother Gene (Denise) DeMorrow of Saint Joseph and a sister-in-law, Carol Dinse of Kalamazoo.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard D. Rickers (1976), father William DeMorrow, mother Helena, stepmother Elizabeth DeMorrow, son Richard T. Rickers (2023), son Dennis J. Rickers (2016), brother Thomas Dinse (2021), and nephew Adam DeMorrow in 2009.

She had several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

Please join family in celebrating Donna Ricker’s life on June 15, 2024, at 12:00 noon through 1 p.m. for visitation and service will begin at 1 p.m. There will be a fellowship after the service at the church. The service is at New Apostolic Church of Watervliet, 7521 Paw Paw Ave., Watervliet.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital and the New Apostolic Church of Watervliet, Michigan.
