F. Joseph “Joe” Flaugh Jr., 93, of Coloma Township, died Thursday, March 30, 2023, at his home.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township. The visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Fairplain Chapel and burial of the ashes will follow the service at Crystal Springs Cemetery. Joe was born on July 20, 1929, in Gary, IN to Joseph Sr., and Roxy Flaugh.
He graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA degree. Joe married his wife, Janet, in 1951 and together they enjoyed 72 years of marriage. After graduation from Western, he taught school in Grand Rapids for six years. He then became an insurance agent and was President of F. Joseph Flaugh Insurance Agency. Joe retired in 2001 after 35 years as an insurance agent. He and his wife spent their winters in Stuart, FL for over 30 years.
Joe was a former member of the Benton Harbor Elks Lodge, the Benton Harbor Lions Club and the Coloma Masonic Lodge. He liked to fish and play golf. Joe was also big in nature and enjoyed going to wildlife habitats.
His family includes his wife of 72 years, Janet; his children, Roxy (Tom Maciejewski) Carpenter of Gowen, MI, Rita Flaugh of South Haven, and Erich Flaugh of Coloma; grandchildren, Katie Mack, Jeremy Pullins, and Justin Flaugh; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Joe’s closest nephews Cory Flaugh and Karl Hess.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dan, in 1998 and by his son, F. Joseph Flaugh III in 2017.
