Fatal Semi-Truck Crash Disrupts I-94 Traffic for Hours

A 22-year-old Chicago man was killed Wednesday, Sept. 2, after the semi-truck he was driving rolled over near the 40.5-mile marker on eastbound I-94 in Berrien County.
According to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find the cab of the semi-truck, which was hauling bottled water, fully engulfed in flames. The driver was unable to escape.
The crash caused major traffic disruptions throughout the Tri-City area, as eastbound I-94 between the 39- and 41-mile markers was closed for approximately seven hours. Motorists were forced to alter their normal travel routes while emergency personnel worked at the scene and crews cleared the wreckage.
The crash remains under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Team.
