More than 75% of children that go missing are between the ages of 15 and 17. Many of these young men and women come from families that may have risk factors such as abuse, family conflict, mental health issues, gender identity issues or bullying, or have been enticed online by sick adults seeking relationships with under-adult age children. Some of those missing can fall into child sex trafficking. Only about 4.5% of missing children are the direct result of a family member illegally abducting them, and less than 1% is non-family abductions.
