Hartford Cross-Country
Two members of the Hartford men’s varsity cross-country team traveled to Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Saturday, Nov. 1 for the MHSAA Division 3 state finals, competing in a field of 256 runners that toed the starting line. It was quite the accomplishment for this pair of juniors, who became the first runners from the school, male or female, to make the trek to compete for the ultimate prize since a Lady Husky team in 2018.
Aiden Mcdonald crossed the finish line with his 110th place time of 17:07 (his personal best time), while Josaias Robles ended the year with his 224th place result, in a time of 18:53.
Hartford Volleyball
The Hartford varsity volleyball team hosted White Pigeon on Tuesday, Oct. 28 for a conference match, with the ladies looking to finish the home season as victors on their own floor and send their seniors off with something to remember. The Lady Chiefs entered the gymnasium with six wins in their previous seven matches, including three straight in league play. Despite battling from the start, the Lady Huskies would fall in straight sets: 25-12, 25-22, 25-12.
With the score ending as it did, you’d think that it was a dominant performance by the visiting team, but credit should also be sent Hartford’s way, as they may have struggled in sets one and three, but led in portions of the second set, but could not close it out.
The volleyball team traveled to Fennville on Thursday, Oct. 30 for a non-conference triangular, with the ladies hoping to conclude a tough regular season on a high note by battling the host Lady Blackhawks and Covert. With just two matches scheduled, both appearances on the court would be best-of-three sets. In a confidence boost for the Lady Huskies, they would sweep the Lady Bulldogs (Covert), 23-25, 25-7, 25-21, and Fennville, 26-24, 25-20.
