The Hartford varsity wrestling team traveled to Kalamazoo Central on Saturday, Jan. 17, to compete in the Ron Russo Classic, aiming to be in the battle for placings against top wrestlers from around the area. Despite only four wrestlers in action, they still managed a podium finish.

In the team standings, the Huskies finished in 12th place with 32.5 team points. The highlights of the day for the grapplers were Linken Birkhead, who made his 100th career win putting him in an elite group of Hartford High School wrestlers and Brady Rice, who brought home a runner-up finish at 120 pounds. Rice went 3-1 on the day, winning his first three matches (two falls and a technical fall) before falling in the finals.
