Hildred Saxman, 96, formerly of Coloma, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Lincoln Township, surrounded by her family.
Services celebrating her life were held on Tuesday, May 28, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township with Pastor Charles Zook of the Summit Church in Niles officiating. Hildred was born on Nov. 20, 1927, in Highland Park, Michigan, to Ollie and Ethel McCoy. She married Harry Saxman and he preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2012. They had 53 years of marriage. Hildred was a homemaker and was a cashier at Hilltop Foods for 17 years. Her husband, Harry, was a longtime owner and operator of the Comet Inn Restaurant in Coloma. She enjoyed and loved her family gatherings and her grandchildren and family. Hildred was a compassionate and loving individual.
Her family includes her children, Debbie (Mark) Swisher of Berrien Springs, Neil Saxman of Siloam Springs AR, and Nancy (Dan) Lackey of Eustis, FL; brothers Rudy McCoy of Stevensville and Bob (Bev) McCoy of Benton Harbor; sister Martha (Bill) Molter of Millburg; grandchildren Scott (Kim) Swisher, Brian (Kristin) Swisher, C.J. (Krystal) MacMillan, Leslie (Chris) Boor, Rachel (Mark) Wilkey, Sonya (Douglas) Van Erman, Keith (Cherry) Lackey, and Kevin (Heather) Lackey; and many great-grandchildren.
Hildred was also preceded in death by sons James Brown Jr. and Steven Saxman; brother Bill McCoy, and sisters Glenda Taylor and June Alton.
