History of the Benton Harbor Ship Canal presented at Hartford Public Library Oct. 18

Chuck Jager, Director of the Morton House Museum in Benton Harbor, will be the guest speaker at the Hartford Public Library, 12 Church St., on Saturday, Oct. 18 beginning at 11 a.m. Jager’s longtime interest of local history and his directorship of the Museum gives him a unique prospective about this history and its impact that continues today.

The Benton Harbor Ship Canal was instrumental in the growth of southwest Michigan; it was the economic engine that helped vault the area into being the heart of the “Fruit Belt.” The Morton family is given tribute with this growth through their many contributions to the area and their co-founding of the steamship firm of Graham and Morton Transportation Company. Everyone is invited to this free program sponsored by the Van Buren Regional Genealogical Society. No registration is needed.
