On Saturday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. Mark Tomlonson of the Kalamazoo Model Railroad Historical Society will present a history of the Railway Post Office at the Hartford Public Library, 12 Church Street.
Mail began moving by rail in the 1830s shortly after the establishment of the first railroads in the U.S. Its peak came about 1915 when almost 4,000 cars were traveling some 216,000 routed miles.
