Holding bureaucrats accountable

 When parents send their children to school, they deserve to know exactly what is being taught, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like sex education. Unfortunately, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has not been upfront with families or lawmakers about proposed changes to the state’s Health Education Standards. That is why this week the House Oversight Committee took the important step of authorizing a subpoena to compel the department to release internal emails and documents related to the drafting of these standards.
