Huzzah! History comes to life: Local reenactors step back in time to preserve the stories of the past
The sharp command rings out across the field.
“Make Ready! Take aim! Fire!”
A deafening blast of black powder fills the air. Smoke rolls across the battlefield as reenactors dressed in period clothing move into formation, carrying muskets and cartridge boxes. Moments later comes another command:
“Charge bayonets!”
Then, from somewhere among the soldiers and spectators, comes the unmistakable cry:
“HUZZAH!”
War reenactments are part theater, part realistic demonstration, and all history.
For the men and women who participate, stepping as far back as the 1700s is far more involved than simply putting on a costume for the weekend. Authentic period uniforms can be expensive, with historically appropriate clothing, footwear, hats, belts, buttons, equipment and accessories often costing hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars to assemble.
