Ivan L. Nestle, 94, of Watervliet, formerly of Bliss Township, Levering, Mich., passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021 at home surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2021 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army of Benton Harbor or Caring Circle (Hospice at Home). Ivan was born on Aug. 14, 1927, the son of Lewis B. Nestle and Lillian (Dorrien) Nestle. After graduating from Pellston High School, he served his country for two years in the Army during the Korean War, where he received a Purple Heart. He continued his education at Michigan State where he met the love of his life Margaret Kruetzman. They married on June 22, 1958. He worked as a sales clerk at Montgomery Ward in Petoskey in the 1960s and 1970s. Ivan retired from Michigan Fruit Canners in Coloma in 1991 after 17 years of employment. He liked fishing, hunting small game, bird watching, astronomy, and enjoyed planting and harvesting a garden. He enjoyed having his cocker spaniel dogs and cats as pets.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Marlene (Mark II) Newmiller and Sally (Tom) Howe. Also surviving are two grandchildren, April (Danny) Lee and Bruce (Rachel Powell) Howe, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Nestle and his sister Louise Stowe.
