JAMES “ED” CHANDLER


James “Ed” Chandler, age 90, of Watervliet, peacefully passed away on Sept. 15, 2023. Ed was born on Aug. 24, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late BF and Alice (McQueen) Chandler. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Floyd, Robert and Jack.

Ed was a truck driver for over twenty-five years. He owned numerous businesses in his lifetime from cleaning services, sand blasting & painting, raising rabbits and even farming. In his later years he built over 2,000 picnic tables. He loved the Chicago Cubs and had two favorite football teams - the Chicago Bears and anybody who beat the Dallas Cowboys. Ed never met a stranger; he was always friendly and ready with a good story to tell. He was humorous and made everyone laugh.

Ed is survived in death by his loving wife, Dianna “Lucy” Chandler; daughters, Tracy (Jason) Shane of LaVergne TN, Margie (Jim) Oliver of Eau Claire MI, and his son Scott Chandler; stepsons, Troy Clay, Matt (Julia) Clay and Frank Clay. He also is survived in death by his nine grandchildren and six step grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 at 12 p.m. with funeral following at 1 p.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Cemetery in Watervliet. Memorials may be made to New Freedom Church.
