James F. Hartmann, 64, of Watervliet, passed away unexpectedly and went to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 14, 2022.
Jim was born in South Haven, Michigan on April 17, 1958 to Patrick and Lorraine Hartmann. He grew up in the blueberry farm industry and followed that passion throughout most of his life.
In 1981, Jim married his best friend and soul mate, Kathy Grinage. Together they owned and operated the Coloma Wash-N-Dri laundromat for the past 20 years. Most recently he had worked at Riverwood Medical Center where he enjoyed the company of his fellow workers.
Jim was never idle; you could always find him repairing some type of equipment or helping a friend. One of his many joys in life was being around his children and grandchildren. He loved to go for long walks on the farm with his dog by his side. Jim’s Christian faith was an essential part of his life and he enjoyed sharing that with others. He was a generous, caring, selfless human being who touched and changed countless lives during his time on this earth. He will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Kathy; son Matthew Hartmann of Washington; daughters Jenn (Zach) Smail of Denver, Colorado and Jamie (Justin) Quigno of Baroda; his mother Lorraine Hartmann of South Haven; sisters Patrice (Ivo) Rabell of South Haven and Annie Hartmann (Norm Fouts) of Indiana; brothers, Daniel (Donna) Hartmann, Patrick (Cindy) Hartmann, and Dennis (Shelly) Hartmann, all of South Haven; five grandchildren, Sawyer, Hayden and Logan Smail and Olivia and Owen Quigno; the extended Grinage family, his Aunt Val (Larry) McVay; and many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Hartmann residence in Watervliet on Sunday, July 24 from 1-4 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Those wishing to share a memory or leave a message for the family may do so at www.duffieldpastrick.com.
