James Woodford Barrett, 79, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, at home with family by his side.
Born in Centertown, Kentucky, on June 5, 1945, to Gilbert and Gracie Barrett (Daugherty), he worked as a millwright at Bosch Braking Systems for 30 years and retired in 1997. After retirement he was self-employed and provided handyman services for the community.
James moved to the Southwest Michigan area in 1963 where he met and married his lovely wife Brenda on Sept. 2, 1964. They resided in Hartford where they raised their family.
James enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Israel, Mexico, and especially Kentucky. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, attending church, riding his motorcycle, making birdhouses, and loved spending time with his family. James will be remembered for his sense of humor, surprise family visits, carpentry, and storytelling. His hugs and love for his family were gifts to everyone who knew him.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda, son James Jr., and siblings Lilly, Billie, Mary, Ruby, Sue, Bill and Martin.
He is survived by his children, Regina Wachowiak (Joshua), Dana French (Gary), Karla Pepple (Joe), Jason Barrett (Katherine); grandchildren, Corissa, Tia, McKenna, Julia, Lucy, John, Josh, and two great-grandchildren, Arya and Clara.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life service that will take place at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Following the service, cremation will take place and a private burial of ashes will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Watervliet. Memorial donations in James’s memory may be made to the family.
