JOHN G. OAKLEY


John G. Oakley, 91, of Coloma died Tuesday, March 15, 2021, at Spectrum Health Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, April 8, at 1 p.m. at the Coloma First Congregational Church with Rev. Susan Greenwood officiating. Burial of the ashes will follow the service at the Columbarium in the Coloma Cemetery where Military Honors will be given. Following the committal service at the Coloma Cemetery there will be a Potluck gathering at the Church.

Memorials may be made to the Coloma First Congregational Church.

John was born on July 13, 1930 in Portland, MI to Roy and Louise Oakley. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany where he met his future wife. John married his wife, Barbara, on June 22, 1956 and she preceded him in death on November 13, 2005. They celebrated 50 years of marriage.

John was a design engineer with Whirlpool Corp for 43 years before his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed watching golf on the TV, but his main hobby was playing golf which he did for many years.

John was also a member of the “Lest We Forget” veteran group and the Coloma American Legion.

His family includes his sons, Peter (Birgit) Oakley of Naples, FL and David (Kate) Oakley of Homer, MI, two beautiful granddaughters, Melissa and Sarah and his many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
