JUDITH A. SMITH


Judy A Smith, 80, of Watervliet passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022 at Physicians Regional Hospital in Naples, FL. A celebration of life will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 12 at Paw Paw Lake Yacht Club, 5099 Shoreview Dr. Coloma.

Judy was born on Feb. 20, 1942 to Robert Sherman and Elizabeth Jean (Nicholie) Castell in Pontiac, MI. She attended Pontiac Central High School and graduated in 1959. On July 7, 1962 she married Edgar Roger Smith in Pontiac.

Judy’s early childhood was filled with love and affection, growing up surrounded by adoring grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins on the same street. After high school she attended Michigan State University. She remained devoted to the Spartans her whole life. After raising her boys, she spent many years volunteering at Watervliet hospital and then was a teacher assistant for 26 years at Watervliet Public Schools.

She resided on Paw Paw Lake for many years and loved everything about it including the many boat rides, swimming, sunsets, and noodle floating with the girls. She also loved playing bridge and taking daily walks with her many friends. Judy had an eye for collecting including antiques and in particular Aladdin lamps but her ultimate love was collecting anything flamingo and did she have the collection. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Judy is survived by her children: Mark (Dawn) Smith of Stevensville and Mike (Katie) Smith of Hartford. Grandchildren: Carter, Olivia and Brittney Smith; her special loving friend Ken Kringle; many cousins including Barbara “Bobbie” Cuyler, Carol O’Grady, Nancy Branson, and Robert Alton.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents Robert Sherman and Elizabeth Jean (Nicholie) Castell, sister Sharon Jean Castell, and her husband Edgar Roger Smith and Aunt Marge Hastings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association or Al-Van Humane Society Adoption & Community Education Center.
