MENTAL MIDGETS… Strike again! According to Watervliet Police Chief Tim Sutherland, our newsstand at Moo’s Place restaurant in Watervliet had been vandalized in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 14. Amy received a message over the weekend from Chief Sutherland letting her know of the incident and passed along that the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department took the report.

Early Monday morning Officer Josh Sutherland from the Sheriff’s Department called the Record to see if we wanted to press charges in this incident. He went on to further state that they had footage from a camera at Moo’s that shows this said individual deliberately taking a large rock and bashing in the front of our newsstand.

After a little investigative work (Facebook) we noticed there had been another vandalism that took place the same night on Red Arrow Hwy. east of town and some of this said person’s belongings have been left at the scene. Surprisingly those same belongings appear to be the same clothing items our vandal is wearing in the photos from the newsstand footage.

THE PLUS OF FACEBOOK… We shared these photos on our Facebook page and by early Wednesday morning 241 people had shared our post in hopes of someone recognizing the culprit. At minimum this individual will be somewhat famous and maybe will think twice before vandalizing anything else.

THE MINUS OF FACEBOOK… For regular Facebook users you may or may not have noticed a flurry of activity that has targeted the Tri-City Record and the lack of real commitment to our communities we serve, some giving the TCR a D-.

Some FB users feel like it is their civic duty to inform readers and criticize and critique everyone and anything that may or may not really involve them. It has become a platform for people to bash people/businesses without a real cause. This new Cancel Culture still exists and if you are not careful you will find yourself right smack dab in the middle of this negativity. Maybe our vandal is part of that culture?

In today’s world with the new war in Israel and the continuing conflict in Ukraine and so many people suffering, why would anyone waste any energy on anything of this nature?
