DID YOU VOTE? We did. Did you know that it is your obligation as an American Citizen to vote? … In 1789 the U.S. Constitution was adopted but left voting rules mostly to the states - so at first only white male property owners could vote in most places. In 1870, the 15th Amendment gave men of color the right to vote by prohibiting racial discrimination. In 1920, the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote nationwide. In 1971, the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18. So if you didn’t vote in last week’s election, shame on you!
