Two letters have been sent to the owner in Chicago regarding the former Catholic church building and property at 204 Crescent Street in the city of Watervliet. The first letter offered for the city to buy the property and demolish the building, with no response from the owner. A second letter has been sent regarding consequences. Both were sent by certified mail. The owner now has 20 days to respond (end of February). If no response comes from the owner then demolition will begin around March 14, 2024, dependent on contractor. The cost will be put on the owner’s taxes in which the 2022 property taxes are delinquent.
