MARGARET ANN ROGEL

Margaret Ann Rogel, 92, of Torch Lake Township, Kewadin, Michigan, also formerly of Watervliet, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023.

Margaret’s life began Sept. 12, 1931, in Bainbridge Township, Michigan, to parents Carl R. & Emma (Behnke) Skibbe, the first born of six siblings. Margaret met the love of her life, Alex V. Rogel, over an evening of dancing at Crystal Palace, Coloma. The romance led to a marriage on Sept. 2, 1950, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Bainbridge Township. After 61 years of marriage, Alex preceded Margaret in death August 1, 2012.

Margaret was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great and great-great grandmother. She had fond childhood memories of growing up on the farm. Those days led to her love of gardening. The rewards of her hard work of canning her vegetables and fruits were enjoyed by family and friends.

Margaret enjoyed camping and entertaining her children and grandchildren on the waters of Torch Lake and her home pool. During quiet times you would see her enjoying her hummingbirds. She traveled throughout 48 states with her husband and family. After retirement, winters were spent in Arizona, but springtime brought them back home to Michigan. Mom was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Charlevoix, MI and former member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Bainbridge Township, before moving to the Torch Lake Township area in 1977.

Margaret is survived by her children, Gary (Carolyn) Rogel, Goshen IN, Sharon (Don) Schultz, Eastport MI, Alex Victor (Monica) Rogel, Constantine MI, Karen Strong Warsko, Watervliet MI, David Rogel, Kewadin MI; siblings, Wanda Ray, Ruth (Philip) Coulson, Janet Hamay, Frank (Francis) Skibbe; sister-in-law Diane Skibbe; eleven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren with another on the way, one great-great grandchild; plus a host of many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, brother Lester Skibbe, grandson Joshua Rogel, sons-in-law Daniel Strong and Walter Norm Warsko, brothers-in-law Donald Ray and Walter Hamay.

Right up until her final days, Mom enjoyed her chocolates, and always figured out a way to get it. We will miss her dearly, but grateful for the time we had to spend with her, and will feel her presence in our hearts.

Visitation will take place at Hutchins Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Mulberry from St. Paul’s UCC. After the service, interment will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Congregational UCC of Charlevoix, 101 State St., Charlevoix MI 49720; Antrim County Commission on Aging, 203 E. Cayuga, Bellaire, MI 49615 or of your personal memorial choice.

Local arrangements are in the care of Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com. The family is also being served by the Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet, www.hutchinsfuneral.com.
