Mary Alice (DeWitt) Bayman, 80, of Watervliet passed from this life to the next on Oct. 23, 2020.
Her husband, Robert “Bob” James Bayman, 84, of Watervliet joined her on Aug. 11, 2022.
Bob was born on April 6, 1938, to Richard and Helen (Saubier) Bayman in Benton Harbor.
Mary was born on Oct. 23, 1940, to Harden and Lillian (Hayden) DeWitt, also in Benton Harbor.
Bob and Mary were married on Jan. 3, 1959, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. They were married for 61 years. They were best friends and spent their time together, playing poker, going to the casinos, bowling, golfing, being active in the American Legion Post 105 and their church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Watervliet. Most of all, they enjoyed spending time together and with their family.
Bob was very active in his community; Knights of Columbus, the Moose Lodge, and serving on several Watervliet city boards.
Mary enjoyed quieter activities. She did needlepoint and was an avid reader.
Mary and Bob had a family of three girls: Cheryl, Roberta (Robin) and Wendy. They raised their family mostly in Watervliet. Bob worked as a machine operator while Mary, after many years working, stayed home and kept house for the family.
Mary and Bob are survived by their three daughters: Cheryl (John) Whitaker, Robin (Terry) Burrows and Wendy (Luke) Strunk; grandchildren: Sabrina (Sam) Gacnik, Jessica (Jeff) Gearhart, Allison (Blake) Freehling, Alicia (Zack) Spears, Robert (Nicole) Hamlett, Zac (Kala) Radde and Alexander Strunk; and 12 great-grandchildren.
They are preceded in death by their parents: Harden and Lillian DeWitt, and Richard and Helen Bayman.
Cremation has taken place through Purely Cremations in Benton Harbor.
