Mison Brookfield (née Kang) was born on June 28, 1963 and grew up in Osan, Korea. She met her first husband - her daughter April's father - while he was in the Air Force and moved to the United States with him in 1984. She eventually made her way to southwest Michigan where she met and married her devoted husband, Don Brookfield, with whom she shared 23 years.
Mison worked as a hair stylist for many years at Country Cuts in Watervliet and enjoyed shopping for herself and others and trying her luck at the casino. She loved taking care of her house and dogs and always looked forward to gathering with her Korean Wives Club friends.
Mison passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She is preceded in death by her father Namjin Kang, her mother Suncho Song, her sister Mihaw Kang, her father-in-law Robert Brookfield, and April’s father, John Span IV.
Mison leaves behind a devoted family to cherish her memory including Don, her husband of 19 years; April and Kyle Planeaux, her daughter and son-in-law; Soni Thomas (née Kang), her sister; Bongchun Kang, her brother; Cecila Brookfield, her mother; Jeffri Brookfield, Mona Anderson, and Robbin Chapman, her three sisters; Amy Thomas, her niece; and her dogs Grace and Casper, who she and Don affectionately refer to as "the munchkins."
Mison's life will be celebrated Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 6 p.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet, followed by a traditional Korean and American buffet at Arclight Brewery. Indoor and outdoor seating will be available at the brewery to accommodate COVID concerns.
