On January 8, 2023 the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to Watervliet City, upon arrival they recovered a body that was later identified as Gregory Schaner, 61, who had been reported missing.
A missing person report was canceled on Tuesday, Jan. 9 when the Michigan State Police (MSP) Fifth District Twitter page sent out this tweet:
“This missing person investigation I posted here on Jan. 3 has been canceled. Thanks for your assistance & attention given to this case.”
There was no reported evidence suggesting the death was a homicide or foul play. This is no longer an active investigation and the case has been closed. The obituary for Schaner ran in last week’s edition of the Tri-City Record.
