Monica Arlene DeLoach, 68, of Hartford, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on June 30, 2026, after a long battle with COPD.
Monica was born Dec. 31, 1957, in Naples, Florida. Her family moved to Arkansas, where she spent the majority of her childhood. When she was sixteen, her family moved to Michigan. Even though she only spent sixteen years down south, that southern drawl of hers never faded!
Her family moved into a house on Bernard Street, next door to the DeLoach’s. That is where she met her soul mate, Carl DeLoach, whom she married Oct. 23, 1976. Carl was in the army and stationed at Fort Stewart in Georgia, so that’s where they headed to start their new journey together. During that journey, Monica and Carl welcomed a beautiful baby girl, on June 27, 1978, who they named Leslie Ann. A year after Leslie was born, Carl’s army stint was over and they headed back to Hartford, where they remained until their deaths.
Monica graduated from Hartford High School in 1976, and after returning back to Hartford from Georgia, she worked at a few different places. But her lifelong career started when she got a job at Huffman’s Home Furnishings in 1989. She loved working there and interacting with everyone who came in to rent or purchase furniture. She was a faithful employee and remained at Huffman’s until the doors were closed in 2016.
Monica loved crocheting, gardening, playing progressive, and spending time with her family. She adored her granddaughters and spoiled them rotten. She spent a lot of time playing cards with her mother Nancy, her brother-in-law Ricky, and her sister Dorothy. She also enjoyed sitting outside in her garage watching the birds and looking at all of her yard pretties.
Monica lost the love of her life on Oct. 12, 2014. She is survived by her mother, Nancy Harris, daughter, Leslie (Marshall) Pomeroy, two granddaughters, Livia Boughner and Madelyn Pomeroy, bonus grandchildren, Taylor (Lauren) Pomeroy and Kelsey (Aaron) Burtchett; and bonus great-grandchildren Chevy, Tessa, and Lainey; four siblings; Dorothy (Loren) Robinson, Bill (Arla) Harris, Ed (Lola) Harris, and Ginger Broekhuizen, and a special brother-in-law who was also her best friend, Ricky DeLoach; cousins Mickey (Darrell) Wennersten, Mike and Dan Shafer, and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews that she loved so very much.
A celebration of life and a dinner will be held at a later date.
