 Tree swallows have returned to southwest Michigan in the last week and can be seen flying low over ponds and lakes, gleaning insects. This species migrates and spends the winter from southern United States to Central America. Tree swallows winter farther north than any other species of swallow and return to their nesting grounds before other swallows come back, like barn swallows or bank swallows.
