PAUL A. STAINBROOK


Paul Alfred Stainbrook, age 87, passed away on May 7, 2021 in Westlake, OH. Paul was born February 9, 1934 in Coloma, MI to Floyd and Frances (Runge) Stainbrook. He was the beloved husband for 66 years to Joanne (nee Hocker), as well as dear father of Dennis (Tina) Stainbrook of Dallas, TX, Linda (Judson) Rubin of Dublin, OH, David (Nancy) Stainbrook of Bay Village, OH, and Paul (Melanie, deceased) Stainbrook of Vermilion, OH, and cherished grandfather and mentor to Allison and Shannon Rubin, Andy, Matt, and Tim Stainbrook, and Leigh Stainbrook. Paul came from a large family. He is predeceased in death by his wife Joanne, and brothers and sisters, Mary, Charles, Geneveive, Floyd Jr., and George. He is survived by his sister Ada Rose of St. Joseph, MI.

Paul and Joanne grew up in Coloma and were high school sweethearts. Paul was a United States Air Force Veteran (Korean War). While serving he earned a Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Ribbon and was a member of the Society of Airway Pioneers. Paul was also a proud member of both the VFW and American Legion.

Upon his return from Korea, he and Joanne moved to Garden City, MI in 1957 where Paul began his career as an Air Traffic Controller at Detroit Metro Airport. In 1964 he transferred to the Cleveland Air Traffic Control Center and continued his career until he retired in 1985, completing 32 years of service. Paul and Joanne lived in Amherst, Ohio for 54 years where they raised their family and were active members of the community. Paul was a past President of the Amherst Band Boosters and the Amherst Historical Society.

Paul loved his family and enjoyed a lifetime of happiness with Joanne, the love of his life. He was an avid gardener, a kind neighbor, and there wasn’t a person he met he wasn’t happy to talk to. Paul especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan and supporter of all education and athletic endeavors.

Services and internment will be private.
