Press Box Player of the Week: Dylan Kuehnle

Dylan Kuehnle, a senior at Hartford High School and a member of the Hartford Husky varsity boys basketball team this winter, is the Tri-City Record Press Box Player of the Week for Dec. 7, 2023.

The definition of the word “leadership” in any dictionary comes with a plethora of different meanings. But, the one that stands out most is the “ability to lead.” Dylan is one of those athletes that possesses the ability to lead by example in every sport he participates in. This season on the basketball court, the reigning honorable mention all-conference selection and starter will be counted on heavily on both ends of the floor. Case in point – in the team’s season debut at Watervliet on Tuesday, Nov. 28, he scored eight points and had five steals on defense, which kept the Huskies in the game until the Panthers pulled away in the later stages.

While basketball may be his sport in the winter, Dylan also excelled on the soccer pitch from his midfielder position. This fall, the four-year varsity letter winner finished the season with four goals on fourteen shots, while also being counted on to help in the team’s own territory, which helped Hartford finish with a 21-1-1 record while winning a conference title and a district championship trophy. Following the end of the campaign, a steady diet of awards came his way, including first team all-conference (from the Southwest 10), second team all-state (from the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association) and was featured on the all-district and all-region teams.

In the classroom Dylan is a model student-athlete, who currently carries a 3.635 grade point average. Because of his excellence in the classroom, he recently received Individual Academic All-State from the MIHSSCA, an award given to seniors who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. In addition, he is a three-year member of the Student Council, has been featured on the Honor Roll and been named a Student of the Week at Hartford High School.
