Press Box Player of the Week: Kourtney Smith

Kourtney Smith, a senior at Coloma High School, and a member of the Coloma Lady Comets volleyball team this fall, is the Tri-City Record Press Box Player of the Week for Nov. 23, 2023.
Kourtney was nominated for the honor this week by her athletic director, Wendy Goodline. Goodline felt she was deserving of this honor, because of Smith’s propensity of showing effective leadership and being a team player, along with her commitment to education in the classroom. Looking back at the conclusion of the volleyball campaign, in her final match as a Lady Comet, which came in a four-set district semifinal loss to Watervliet on Nov. 1, she was able to break onto the statistics sheet. Kourtney served one of the team’s two aces on the night, while also being near the top of the chart in digs, as she recorded seven of those, as well.
This season Kourtney finished her high school volleyball career with solid defensive and offensive play. In matches where statistics were recorded to our newspaper, she finished with a total of one kill, 12 aces and 65 digs. Her “reported” season-high in aces of four took place on two separate occasions: once during the Marcellus Invitational on Sept. 23, and the second in a conference triangular with Kalamazoo Hackett and Lawton on Sept. 26, while her “reported” season-high in digs, seventeen was also recorded at the Marcellus Invitational.
In addition to volleyball, Kourtney competes on the basketball court in the winter and the softball diamond in the spring. She is also a member of the Coloma Comet band program. In the classroom she takes the role of being a “student-athlete” to a T, as she currently carries a 3.8 grade point average, while also being dual enrolled at Lake Michigan College.
Congratulations on this great honor, Kourtney! We congratulate you on your achievements during the volleyball season and wish you the best of luck in the remainder of your senior year.
