Priorities for 2024
As we look to the new year ahead, my focus remains on fighting for hardworking taxpayers, creating an economy that empowers families and small businesses to thrive, and defending our values and constitutional liberties.
We should support taxpayers by reducing tax burdens on families, individuals, and small businesses – they know how to spend their money better than the government does. Unfortunately, Lansing Democrats are pushing a $700 million income tax hike in 2024, a new $1 billion-plus payroll tax, and around $100 million in new fees on water.
Michigan should pursue an all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes affordable and reliable energy sources such as natural gas, oil exploration, and nuclear, while continuing to explore new technologies to improve our grid for the future. The Democrat majority passed a partisan energy plan that utilizes a 100% “green” energy plan that will result in utility bill increases, reduce reliability, and effectively ban natural gas. I will continue to fight these extreme policies and support the critical Line 5 tunnel project to transport natural gas safely and affordably.
Our students deserve to receive a great education and parents deserve to know what is going on in their local schools. We should be teaching the basics like reading and math to prepare students for a successful path forward whether that is college or a career in the skilled trades. Parental involvement is fundamental to a quality education.
Michigan residents are facing rising gas prices and high inflation but are still expected to live within their means. Rather than growing the size of government, the Legislature should be investing in critical infrastructure and repairing our crumbling roads and bridges.
