Reminiscing with Pearl Playford

Published March 14, 1963

The following is an editorial written 50 years ago by the late E.F. Case and appearing in The Record under date of May 30, 1913:

“In Argentina the man who does not vote at elections is fined $4.40. It may be agreed that the man who is not inclined to perform his duty in this manner can defeat the law by voting blank. It is not, however, through willfulness, but mere negligence, that men fail to vote. If they are obliged to go to the polls through the formality of voting they will be apt to indicate a choice. Such a law might be beneficial in this country, causing men who are not indifferent to take an interest in elections.”
