Reminiscing with Pearl Playford

Published October 24, 1963

There is an old saying that there is never more than 15 fine days in the month of October, but that superstition is not holding good in October 1963, for the entire month thus far has brought beautiful, summer like weather with temperatures in the upper 70s and 80s during the days, but cool nights. The countryside is a riot of beauty with the trees’ foliage at its height and fall flowers still blooming in profusion. In some orchards apples are still unharvested and pears in some instances are still on the trees, but for the most part farmers are well caught up with their fall work. Just two more weeks of October and if the mild weather continues that long October 1963, will be remembered as one of the finest on record. The year ago weather was mild and pleasant but could not be compared to what the weatherman handed us this month.

A walk in the woods or a drive over the country roads is a real inspiration and if you do not believe it, just take a drive over our highways and enjoy what Nature has given us. One needs not to even leave his own back yard to see beauty. Right now it is everywhere.
