News From the Coloma Courier

100 years ago – 1926

The death of John G. Furman, one of Coloma’s most highly respected citizens occurred. He also was a member of the Modern Woodmen and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He leaves daughters Mrs. Louis Dorsewitz, Misses Marie, Cora and Marjorie and a son John.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodward have disposed of the Woodward Annex property and many acres across the highway opposite the Woodward Hotel. Joseph Wolf and Frank Bletchta of Chicago are the purchasers.

60 years ago – 1966

Patrons of Coloma area taverns contributed to the Berrien County cancer drive. Dollar bills were pinned up in the different establishments. The Friendly Tavern contributed $236.

Rev. C. Jack Richards is the new minister for the First Congregational Church. He and his family moved into the newly purchased parsonage on Bayview Drive.
