SUSAN L. OPENNEER


Sue’s life began Sept. 26, 1948, in Chicago, IL. As a young child her parents moved to Coloma where she did most of her schooling and graduated from Coloma High School. After high school Sue earned an associate degree in accounting. She went to work at 1st National Bank where she stayed through several mergers and finally retired from 5/3rd Bank. In her retirement Sue worked for the City of Watervliet as treasurer for a short time and as clerk. In her free time Sue loved arts and crafts and buying treasures off QVC. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR and her son race on the dirt track, and following Chicago sports teams.

Sue’s greatest love was her family she leaves behind including: her husband of 51 years, Glen “Corkey” Openneer; her two children, Steven (Michelle Cole) Openneer and Stephanie (David) Faulkner; four grandchildren, Sarah (Austin) Green, Bradley (Krista) Faulkner, Austin (Maggie) Openneer, and Avery Openneer; three grandchildren, Beau Openneer, Colton Green, and Spencer Green; four sisters, Carol Lenz, Linda LaGrow, Debbie Lenz, and Judy Lord; two brothers, Ed Lenz and Rick Lenz; and many nieces and nephews.

Sue died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, at Corewell Health South in St. Joseph. Her parents Edward and Lavern (Lowezinski) Lenz precede Sue in death. Funeral services will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 7, at 12:00 noon with visitation prior starting at 10:00 a.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet.
