Soon after arriving in Bainbridge, the early German settlers realized their need to worship and glorify God. It is believed that the first fellowship of worshipers met at a home on the north side of Hill Road as early as 1850. On February 17, 1852, Peter Schmitberger and his wife, Elizabeth, sold, for $1, property on the north east corner section 9 (now the corner of Bainbridge Center and Hill Roads) to Daniel Krieger, and David Sharrai (Scherer), and Frederick Weber, trustees of “The Lutheran Dutch Church of Bainbridge Township.” The land measured 214.5 ft. square.
