A matter of conscience

A young man who was an accountant lived at home with his widowed mother. He was single and enjoyed the good life. His mother liked cooking for him and keeping the house. One day he came home from his accounting work and sat down at the kitchen table. “Mother,” he said, “I’d like to talk to you about something.”
