The State of our State

Ahead of Governor Whitmer’s State of the State address, a nonpartisan think tank on Monday released a report finding Michigan had dropped from 16th nationally in personal income per capita in 1999 to 39th in 2022, having been passed by 23 states in that measurement. The same report found that Michigan’s personal income per capita rose 24.2% over 23 years compared to national per capita income jumping 42.1% over the same period. One example that sticks out on the list of states that was below Michigan but has now surpassed us is our neighbor to the south – Indiana.
