PER HISTORIAN CHARLES WELLS… Joe Elliott Wells (1905-1978) shown in this photo with Dr. Elliot is a descendant of the Ball and Furman families of Coloma. He was born in Pokagon, but spent much of his youth between Detroit and summers in Coloma. He with his wife Marjorie Scott Wells (1907-1996) were publishers of the Coloma Courier from 1946 to 1969. Daisy Wells and Dr. Mabel Elliott were very close friends and Joe was named after Dr. Elliot’s father Joseph Elliott. The name Elliott has come down in Wells descendant names for two generations. Also the Elliott recipe for curry is still used in the Wells family and came from Joseph Elliott’s time as a British soldier in India. (Photo courtesy of North Berrien Historical Museum)
