THOMAS SAUNDERS Jr.

Thomas “Tom” Saunders Jr., 66, of Coloma, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021 at his home.

Services celebrating his life will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township with Rev. Eugene French officiating. The visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Fairplain Chapel in Benton Township. There will be a gathering of friends and family after the service at the Coloma FOP on Angling Road in Coloma. Cremation will follow the service. Please share messages or memories at www.florin.net.

Tom was born on Feb. 12, 1955 in St. Joseph to Thomas Sr. and Donabell Saunders. He was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School. Tom married his wife, Tina Whitright, in 1974 and together they have celebrated 47 years of marriage. He just recently retired from LECO Corp where he was kiln operator after 47 years of employment. Tom enjoyed working at LECO and loved his LECO family of coworkers. They became his second family. He also liked automobiles especially classic and muscle cars. His first love was his family including his grandchildren which he dearly loved and he enjoyed participating in their activities.

His family includes his wife, Tina; his children, Thomas E. Saunders III, of Benton Harbor, Melissa Saunders of Coloma, Amy (Justin) Povilaitis of Vicksburg and Megan (William) Reynolds of Vicksburg; his two sisters, Darlene Hamman of Mishawaka, IN and Lillian Jones of St. Louis, MO and his nine grandchildren, Tyler, Jayden, Jazmine, Cassidy, Aubrey, Delanie, Mason, Delilah and Grayson.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Suzanne, in 1982 and his sister, Carol Hora, in 2003.
