Trees for Troops

Every year, thousands of Michiganders and millions of Americans trek out into the cold and pick out a live Christmas tree to decorate their home for the season. While decorating a tree is a fun and festive activity for families, it is important that we do not lose sight of the importance of the Christmas season and the spirit of giving it inspires. Likewise, it is a time for us to reflect on the many blessings we enjoy and to give thanks. For more than a decade now, Wahmhoff Farms in Gobles has helped embody this spirit, coordinating with other Michigan Christmas tree farms as a part of the Trees for Troops program which delivers hundreds of donated trees to those serving in our nation’s armed forces.

Many volunteers, including myself and my team, head to Wahmhoff Farms each year to help load Christmas trees that are being shipped off to military bases around the U.S. Even on the coldest, snowiest days, it is a wonderful event. Not only does this program provide trees to servicemen and women across the nation, it is also a great way to support local farmers right here in Michigan. My family has gotten our Christmas tree at Wahmhoff Farms for many years, and even Governor Whitmer picked out her tree from the Wahmhoffs this year. This Christmas, I implore everyone to reflect, and be thankful for those who serve; and to support local, made-in-Michigan businesses as we celebrate the holidays.
