Bennie G. Light

 Bennie’s life began May 26, 1946 in Muskegon, Michigan.  Bennie grew up in the Muskegon area.  He married Nanette Davis in 1969 and that brought him to southwest Michigan where he went to work for Bosh until retirement.  Bennie enjoyed being active at North Berrien Senior Center, playing cards, hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed his loving family which includes: his wife Nanette; four children Benjamin (Abby) Light of Benton Harbor, Jamie Light of Los Angeles, CA, John Light of Hartford, and Barbara Shape of Sarasota, FL; one grandchild; four siblings Nancy Quickery of South Haven, Pamela Light Parker of South Haven, Randy Light of Crestview, FL, and Don (Shirley)Metcalf of East Jordan, MI, and many nieces and nephews.  Bennie died Thursday, June 16, at home.  His parents Benjamin and Bertha (Collins) Light and three brothers Robert Light, Richard Light, and Ron Metcalf precede Bennie in death.  Hutchins Funeral Home assisted Bennie’s family with cremation. Bennie’s family invites you to join them Friday, June 24, after 2:00 p.m. at Van Buren State Park in Covert, Michigan for a gathering to share stories about Bennie.

Henry James  Meachum III

 Henry James “Doc” or “Horse” Meachum III, 83, of Paw Paw, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2016, at Wings of Hope Hospice Residence in Allegan.  He was born December 22, 1932, in Benton Harbor, the son of Henry

James II & Helena Frances (Miska) Meachum.   Following his graduation from Hartford High School in 1951, he continued his education at Michigan State University Veterinary School.  On October 29, 1955, he was married to Patsy Jean Moran and celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss last year. After graduating from MSU in 1957, the couple returned to his hometown of Hartford where he practiced Veterinary medicine for over 30 years in Hartford and Coloma.  Jim and Patsy moved to Sister Lakes, MI, for 14 years and later retired to Aventura, FL, where Henry pursued a 10 year career teaching high school biology and chemistry at Miami Beach High School.  In 2002, they removed to Tucson, AZ, to enjoy the western culture, returning to Three Mile Lake in Paw Paw for the summers.  Like his father and grandfather before him, Henry was an avid horseman, who taught horsemanship skills to many young people at his riding stable on Paw Paw Lake in Coloma and Dewey Lake riding stable in Sister Lakes.  During his lifetime he served as President of the Michiana Veterinary Medical Association and President of the Kalamazoo Veterinary Medical Association.   He was also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Hartford Township Board, and the Hartford United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Patsy Meachum, four children:  Virginia Meachum of Margate, FL, Henry James Meachum IV of Paw Paw, MI, Patti Jo (Denis) Huffman of Marshall, MI, and Daniel Meachum of Hartford, MI; four grandchildren:   Jami (Leibering) Mabb of Roselle Park, NJ, Thomas Leibering of Milltown, NJ, Alyssa (Matthew) VanAken of Saratoga, WY, and Miranda Meachum of  Lansing, MI; two great grandchildren: Bryar Lynn VanAken and (soon to be) Gable James VanAken of Saratoga, WY; a twin sister, Jeanne Koebel of Berrien Springs, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marjorie Simmons of Yorba Linda, CA. Henry has been cremated and has requested no services. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Hartford United Methodist Church. Friends and relatives are invited to attend with their favorite stories of Doc’s life to share at 3:30 with food served at 5:30.  Interment will be delayed until the death of his wife, at which time their ashes will be joined; half strewn over Dewey Lake where they met and the other half interred at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, 550 Linn Street, Allegan, MI.

ISABELLE   HOPE   FLOATE

 Isabelle Hope Floate, 97, formerly of Hartford, was called home on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Waltonwood at Carriage Park in Canton. Isabelle was born October 23, 1918 in Sault Sainte Marie, to her parents William and Wilamena Trickey. Isabelle was preceded in passing by her parents; husband: Raymond on September 23, 2004 and a son: William. Isabelle is survived by her daughter: Paula (Zach) Holmes of Plymouth; twograndchildren: Zach G. Holmes of Colorado Springs, Co. and Christine (Nick) Leto of Surprise, Ariz.; two great granddaughters: Olivia and Alexandra and a daughter-in-law: Carole Floate of Lake Bluff, Ill. Isabelle, or “Belva” as she was known, graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. She was a long time member of the Hartford United Methodist Church. After her husband passed away, she had no choice but to move to Plymouth to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. The family will welcome friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23 at the Hartford United Methodist Church, followed by a celebration of life service officiated by the Reverend Ronald W. Hansen. Isabelle will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford Township.
